What the BID will do
Cleaning up
The city’s streets and pedestrianised areas are cleaned by the City Council’s ‘City Services’. We all know standards could be higher and with greater attention to detail bringing a uniform high level of cleanliness to greet everyone who ventures our way. This is where the BID could come in, by delivering additional clean and bright projects to give that ‘gold standard’ appeal to the city centre over and above what the Council already does and will continue to do.
- Regular deep cleaning of the core streets in the BID area, beyond Old Market Square, to remove chewing gum, staining, graffiti etc. using dedicated and branded machinery
- Provide a co-ordination ‘hot line service’ for businesses/levy payers to report all cleaning and soiling incidents direct to Council cleansing/operational services
- Provide a shop front cleaning and renovation service
- Work with City Council on streetscape enhancements to provide better lighting, street furniture and landscaping to make a more tangible and positive impact for shoppers and visitors
- Work with City Council on removing redundant signs/poles and clutter and look to replace with better signage and street furniture options to improve the streetscape
- Work with key partners to enhance the city centre’s ‘In Bloom’ with more planting, plant sculptures and a flower trail across the city centre
- Investigate the viability of covered streets e.g. Kings Walk, Exchange Walk in conjunction with property owners
