What the BID will do
Security matters
The city centre already has the benefit of CCTV, and an established shopwatch/crime reduction scheme under the name of Nottingham Businesses Against Crime (NBAC). These services are delivered either through the Council or the Crime and Drugs Partnership, covering the entire city centre. The BID has an opportunity to enhance the provision of some of these existing services and to introduce new initiatives that will improve security. Consequently our businesses will lose less through crime and our local environment will be safer for businesses, employees, customers and the general public.
- Look to extend the benefits of NBAC/Retail Crime Operation Membership to embrace all retailers in BID area, including extension of the digital radio system
- Work with the Police to improve awareness and introduce improvements to provide a better presence, dedicated beat officers and more involvement with businesses – all aimed at a more visible patrolling of the BID area during core shopping hours
- Provide a visible/mobile ‘front of house’ concierge service available at entrance points and in the core area to provide a sense of security and up to the minute information, maps, offers and advice and to be the mobile ‘eyes and ears’ of the BID
- Discounted membership and closer working partnership on all matters related to crime and anti-social behaviour – including regular publication of crime and other security statistics to measure impact
- Effectively co-ordinate all shopping centre and store security staff to form an effective level of deterrent and support the city centre Police/crime enforcement teams
- Set up a regular city centre retail business crime prevention forum to oversee the monitoring and performance of business related crime and work with key partners to publicise positive crime trends to dispel Nottingham’s negative perceptions
